Don’t you just love PR people who comment on things they have no idea about? Catherine Reinbold seems to be one of the worst of that breed given her recent comment on my last blog post on Mobile Web.
Here’s what she had to say:
Hi Tarek ~ You mention Volantis helped facilitate your mobile Internet experience, but are you familiar with InfoGin? You should check them out: http://www.infogin.com/
What they do is instead of reinventing the Web content in an effort to satisfy the perceived limitations of mobile devices, their Intelligent Mobile Platform delivers any Web page to any mobile device — from legacy devices to those not yet introduced to the market — while maintaining the richness of the content, as well as the navigation experience.
InfoGin believes that in order to automatically adapt Web content designed for large screen display, a platform must “understand” the visual aspect of the page first. Then, content can be presented according to its importance, and with smart navigation to allow users to reach the desired content with a minimum number of clicks.
I’ve seen their platform bring the Web to multiple devices, and it worked across the board. This technology allows the best mobile browsing experience I’ve had by far!
Catherines first mistake was that she clearly hadn’t read any of my previous posts and hadn’t realised that I actually work for Volantis and went ahead trying to plug one of our (perceived) competitors. No matter though as Volantis had absolutely nothing to do with the post she had commented on anyway. In fact the only reason the name came up was because I had mentioned that I’d entered our office Post-Code into Google Maps to find my way to work when I was lost.
Clueless Catherine then goes on to gift us with some Golden Nuggets of information about the Mobile Web, as clearly she’s an expert. It was a professionally executed Copy/Paste job which, again, totally missed the point. She also seemed to have no idea of the range of product Volantis provide, but I digress.
Hopefully InfoGin will take notice and move on to a more reputable PR firm. Trolling Google and Technorati for blog posts on competitors and then spamming those posts with comments on competing technology is just fucking stupid.
Catherine Reinbold and Citigate Cunnigham, who ironically state “Tech PR: It’s In Our DNA” as their motto, need to get a fucking clue and clean up their act quick.

InfoGin? I’d never heard of them before, and I’m far from a newbie to the mobile arena.
Even now, all I know about them is that they’ve employed some comment spamming PR agency to spread their name, I guess they’re working on the old-school “any publicity is good publicity” approach.
Wrongo! InfoGin appear to be the new Ratners of content adaptation. I thought Novarra/Vodafone were unassailable in this category, but wow, pre-Cluetrain thinking at its worst.
